British Lionhearts assist Hammersmith Boxing Academy students with Mobile Boxing Arena

The Hammersmith Boxing Academy students host the British Lionhearts at the Mobile Boxing Arena.

The British Lionhearts and WSB join forces with Hammersmith Boxing Academy at Lyric Square, Hammersmith, Wednesday 11th March, to promote the WSB event, British Lionhearts Vs Ukraine match at York Hall.

The students from Hammersmith Boxing Academy were delighted to meet the British Lionhearts squad and talk boxing and careers. The public had the opportunity to watch some fantastic pad-work and boxing skills performed by both Lionhearts and Hammersmith Academy students. Enthusiastic onlookers also had the opportunity to take part in some one on one  coaching with the academy students.

The aim of the event was to not only promote the WSB event but for the students to engage with the community and show the public their skills and talk about the unique opportunity they have taken on by combining their love of boxing with an educational approach.

There were smiles all around from the academy students as they had the opportunity to take photos and collect autographs from their boxing role models the British Lionhearts, British stars such as AIBA World Championships bronze medalist Anthony Fowler and Commonwealth Games bronze medalist Samuel Maxwell.

Head Coach Mike Hunter commented “It was a pleasure to see the students from Hammersmith Boxing Academy conduct themselves in such a professional and organised manor. The way they engaged with the public was impeccable and they should all be very proud, they are a credit to the academy and EHWLC.”

It’s almost upon us, a new amateur boxing season…  Hold up, that’s the first major change right there, the term ‘amateur’ has all but been abolished under the new, revolutionary AIBA guidelines. We are now talking about ‘open’ boxing, as opposed to ‘amateur’. That said, here it comes, another season.  Club founder Richard Powers very kindly kept all of his coaches busy during the summer break.  Get-Set-Go Sport have been here, there and everywhere, providing top quality boxing outreach sessions for the young and bored of old London Town.  Oh, here’s another change: head-guards have been abolished for ‘senior’ boxing competitions…  And ‘senior’ boxers are now known as ‘elite’ boxers – phew!  Oh well, you know what they say; a change is as good as a rest.  We’ve had the rest, and now we’ve got the change.
Here’s to a inspirational new season.  Here’s to a win for Kwame ‘KOB’ Boateng, and another for Matt ‘The Young Bull’ Teixeira.  Here’s to a top-notch debut from Callum McKeever, and another for Yves ‘The Congo Kid’.  And keep your eyes out for big Mikey ‘O’ at light-heavy – man oh man, can he dig?   Yes he can!
And, last but not least, here’s a big thank you to non-stop sports enthusiasts Richard Powers and Jenny Hunter for a summer’s worth of work.  Lovely stuff!
It’ll very soon be all systems go.  Are you ready?  Be ready?  Ready is good.
